LESSON 8 THEME: Signs, Seals, Sponsors 1. Signs are always used to say something to
the other person. The red and the green lights of the traffic signals tell us
when to stop and when to go respectively. A handshake with another tells
him/her that we like their company. 2. Jesus
himself used signs during his life and he continues to use them in his
Church. He used clay and spittle to sure the blind man. He touched the
lepers. He took the paralytic by the hand. He breathed on the apostles. When
Jesus used a sign a change took place in the person. This is what happens
when we meet Jesus in the Sacraments. A change will take place if we receive
them with much faith and love. 3. In
confirmation many signs and things are used, like laying on the hands to show
the love and pride God our Father has for us. Oil is used as a sign of
healing and strength. Words are used as a sign of what is really happening to
us. 4. Seal: The child will be sealed with the
sign of the Cross. This means that like Jesus he should deny himself, think
of others first, forget himself. This will give glory to God on earth and
make the world a better place to live in. 5. Sponsor: He/she is one already confirmed, a
good devout Catholic, who comes to present the child for confirmation. |
