TEN LESSONS TO PREPARE
CHILDREN FOR CONFIRMATION

LESSON 1 THEME: The idea of God, the idea of
Confirmation 1. Find
out the idea they have on “God”. Is it intellectual or is God “real” and
“person”? Are the 3 persons seen as distinct? Each one’s role to be stressed.
God is sometimes a “Father”, sometimes a “Friend”. This will bring out the
role of each person. 2. Find
out their idea of Confirmation. Most of them will not know much about it. 3. Show
the link between Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. 4. Confirmation
is the time when they ratify the promises made for them by their parents and
godparents. It is the time when they themselves say “I’m glad to be
Christian, to be a brother/sister of Jesus”, or “to be a son of my Heavenly
Father and call Him, Abba, Father.” They thus make a personal choice to be
Christian. 5. Their
desire to be confirmed is that personal choice and God’s Spirit will be given
to them to witness to Christ. Time should be spent in helping the children to
arrive at a point where-upon they really choose to be confirmed, and to know
they are not there because they have been sent by parents or teachers, or
simply because it is time for Confirmation. |
