My experience at the Life In The Spirit Seminar

Few weeks ago, a programme was held in St. Peter’s Church for Form 3 Confirmation students. These Life in The Spirit programme lasted for three days from 13th till 15th June. Most of the students groaned when Uncle Michael informed us about it. Maybe it was because it included sleeping over. Furthermore, we have to be away from home. I wasn’t that excited about this either. I thought it will be boring or something but I was wrong. It was my most fruitful experience I had.

I was nervous when I was on the way to church that evening. What will this programme be like? What’s going to happen to me in these 3 days? All kinds of thoughts rushed through my mind.

I reached the church at almost seven o’clock. I saw Aunty Faith at the registration table where I signed in my name. Faith was the first person I talked with that evening. Then came Michael not long after that. I went up in Room 3 to put my bags full of stuff down. All students gathered together in the AVA room. Then the first activity stated that night. We praised and worshipped the Lord which is lead by the Emmaus Community Teen Cell. Few minutes later after the melodious singing we had, Uncle Michael and uncle Valentine welcomed us and gave a short speech. The very first session was about God’s Love. Aunty Christina whose one of the facilitators from BSC youth shared it with us. I was amazed with the talk because I finally know what these programme is about. So I know I will enjoy it this weekend. Even though I had a rough time sleeping that night because it was extremely cold.

The next day which was Saturday, I was a little psyened for the next session to begin. Breakfast was prepared by the Sunday school teachers and it tasted great. It amazing how we can eat such simple yet wonderful food. Although there were only bread with Jam and Milo. After breakfast, we went in AVA Room again to pray the rosary. We had talks, workshops and activities whole morning. In the afternoon, we were given time to prepare for confession. Drops of sweat rolled down my face as I waited for my turn to confess to Father Chin, the priest.

It felt like forever to confessed all my burdens and guilt to the priest. When it only took me few minutes to do so. I went for counseling later then. I released all my tension and problems I had to the counselor and I felt better after that. Then, I gathered with my group which consists of Clarissa as the leader, Cherrie, Sebastian, Aaron and James, to prepare things and equipments for our group before play. I have finished my job of writing the script for the play then I wandered around the church.

By evening, we had a splendid dinner. Then there goes the inner healing session. We were given time for privacy to pray to the Lord our God. While I was still waiting for my turn to kneel at the cross, I saw a few people ‘fainted’. They seemed to be losing their control of standing. After few minutes of praying to the Lord, I was lead to a lady whom later prayed for me in tongue. I felt a little warmness at first but it slowly fade away.

When I  woke up, I found myself lying on the ground. My cheeks were wet because of the tears I shed before. I realized Michelle was lying next to me. She was still unconscious. I finally managed to sleep well that night but I could felt Michelle poking me, expecting me to wake up.

It was that day when the talk was mostly about the Holy Spirit. We were told that the session yesterday involved the presence of the Holy Spirit. They entered our body and washed away our sins or took away our burdens. Most people seemed different after that night. Somehow, they were cheerful than before. That afternoon, the inner healing session was done once more.

Later then, it was time to present our group bible play. I took the role of one of the governors in the play entitled ‘Daniel in the Pits of Lions’. I got really panic while getting prepared for the play. But it seemed to be only a minute for me to finish the play. I exaggerated most of the time because I couldn’t remember my lines. Michelle, Faith and I then attend for the sunset mass at 5.30 pm.

After the mass ended, we head back to AVA room. Uncle Valentine gave his very last speech for that evening. That’s the time when I had to leave the church. Fortunately, I had tuition that evening or I had to clean up the place with the rest of the students.

Although I had a tough time in those three days, I’m glad I had the chance to attend this programme. It was God’s plan that this programme started and its his plan that I was there.
