Q. If
God is good, why does he allow good people to suffer?
Small children seldom understand why the dentist has to take out their
teeth or why their parents refuse to let them play on
the street ... as adults they learnt that it was for their own good or
perhaps to save them from great tragedy.
We are small children before God... as
such we may not always understand why he allows the good to suffer, but we can
be sure that it is for their ultimate good.
Jesus Christ was completely sinless, yet he
suffered most of all ... we can learn most about the purpose of suffering
at the foot of his cross. Sufferings
offered to God and borne in union with Christ “prepare for us an eternal weight of glory (in the next life) beyond all
comparison” (2 Cor.4,17).
