Some Mercy Milestones

Divine Mercy appears throughout Scripture and all recorded time. The private revelations given to St. Faustina by Jesus, however, emphasize the urgency of Divine Mercy for our time. In fact, when he canonized St. Faustina in 2000, Pope John Paul II said, “By this act, I intend to pass this message on to the new millennium.”

Devotion to The Divine Mercy

Jesus appears to Sr. Faustina. He tells her to paint an image according to His appearance. He later reveals The Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Hour of Great Mercy, and the Feast of Mercy.

Divine Mercy in America

Father Joseph Jarzebowski, MIC, flees war-torn Poland and arrives in America with material concerning The Divine Mercy message. His fellow Marians help him publish and distribute Divine Mercy materials.

Marians arrive on Eden Hill

Father Walter Pelczynski, MIC, helps to establish the Mercy of God Apostolate on Eden Hill, Stockbridge, MA, today home of the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy and the Marian Helpers Center.

Vatican bans message

The message and devotion are prohibited, based on lack of original sources and unreliable translations of Sr. Faustina’s Diary.

Vatican lifts ban

Original documents, as well as the favorable opinion of bishops, lead Vatican officials to lift the ban on The Divine Mercy message and devotion.

Karol Wojtyla elected Pope

Cardinal Wojtyla takes the name John Paul II. The new Pope dedicates his pontificate to The Divine Mercy.

Canonization/Divine Mercy Sunday

On Divine Mercy Sunday, Pope John Paul II declares Blessed Faustina a saint. On that day, he also establishes Divine Mercy Sunday as a feast day for the universal Church.

Entrusting the World to The Divine Mercy

During his homily at the dedication of The Divine Mercy Shrine in Lagiewniki, Poland, Pope John Paul II entrusts the world to The Divine Mercy.

Mercy Congress Announced

Pope Benedict XVI approves the first World Apostolic Congress on Mercy, to be held in Rome from April 2-6, 2008. The Congress will open on the third anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s death.

National Congresses

On dates and times to be determined, National Mercy Congresses will convene in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Latin America, Oceania, and Asia.
