The BEAUTIFUL FEET of MOTHER TERESA
Mother
Teresa passed away on September 5th 1997. She was beatified on October 19
2003.
People
over the world recognize her face, her smile, we see God radiating through her.
There
is a part of her though that is not well known to people: her feet.
The Law of Sacrifice
Many
years ago Shane Claiborne of the Philadelphia-based Ministry The
Simple Way arrived in Calcutta, India, to apprentice under Mother Teresa. When
prayer time came, this humble nun removed her shoes, as was her practice, Claiborne found that he could not stop staring at
her feet because they were so grotesquely deformed. Afterwards, Claiborne asked
one of the sisters what kind of illness had left Mother Teresa’s feet so
malformed. The sister answered him, “Mother Teresa’s feet were not born like
that. When people give shoes, she always waits to the very end and take the shoes that no one else wants.” Over time, her feet
had twisted and contorted to take the shape of ill-fitted footwear.
Mother
Teresa served those who needed God most, even at the risk of her own comfort.
And in that process she carved an incredible path of influence that is still
circling the globe years after her death.
Mother
Teresa exuded acceptance because she operated under the law of sacrifice. This
law states that we are open to the influence of those who serve by making a
sacrifice for something we consider important; we are closed to the influence
of those who are unwilling to sacrifice when sacrifice is deemed necessary.
