Am I A Neighbour

Bunsu Jugah      A Picture says a thousand words

Shalom,

Bunsu ak Jugah, aged 29 years has four young children aged between 10 to 4 years and 3 are schooling.

Her husband works as a gardener for a landscaping company. He is paid on a daily basis of RM23 per day and on a rainy day; he will be out of work. They are staying at a small wooden hut close to the highway at Pending provided by the employer. Her home is a 12’ by 12’ wooden hut with limited space for living and cooking. Bathing and washing are done outside the hut. The home environment is very small and poorly ventilated. The hut is located close to a saw-mill that emitted dust and noise during the day.

Bunsu’s husband, Jongjaw is an “economic migrant” from Simunjan. He thought the pasture would be greener here in Kuching. But alas, that was not so, he only managed to make about RM500+ per month. The children feel very inferior when their parents could not afford their school fees. As a result, they were not given school uniforms and textbooks. At some point, they pestered their parents relentlessly for their school fees. Poor kids!  Thanks to SVDP for coming to the rescue, now they could proudly wear their school uniforms and own textbooks. Some good Samaritans have also chipped in to buy school shoes for the children.

Early this year, 2011, their two younger children, Robicca Lawren, 6 years and James Hinkley, 4 years were without birth certificates.  Owing to financial constraint the parents did not get it done. The problem has now been solved when their concerned mother asked for help to have them done.

Every morning, Bunsu walks to Sg Apong market place to pick up the food package from the mobile soup kitchen provided by SKUP. The family lives a Spartan lifestyle and previously, Bunsu works as a dish washer at a seafood centre to supplement the family’s meager income.

This poor family needs some help from the community especially with the needs of the children.  Let’s pull whatever resources we have for the children to have a good education.  Education will definitely put an end to the vicious cycle of poverty for their second generation.

SK St Andrew School has assisted in opening a saving account (min. RM10 deposit) at Bank Simpanan Malaysia  for the two older boys, under the Poor Students Trust Fund (KWAPM) from the government which never materialize.. These are their bank a/c No: Jackson Gayok – 10 yrs (BSN No:13106-41-00002390-5), Johnis Demong – 9 yrs (BSN No: 13106-41-00002391-3)

Will you help to wipe away their tears and put the smile back to their faces?

“Charity draws people closer to God and is a sign of a desire for conversion,” Pope Benedict XVI told members of a Belgium Association that help him find charities.  “It is an expression of God’s concern for all people, created in the image of God”.
