On
the day that the Jews slaughter the Passover lamb, Jesus said to Peter and
John: Go into the city. There you will meet a man carrying a water jar. Follow
him until he enters a house. Ask the master of the house in my name: Where is
the room in which I can eat the meal with my disciples? He will show you the
room. They both went and found everything as Jesus had said. They prepared
the Passover meal.
In
the evening Jesus sat at the table with his apostles. He said: I have dearly
longed to eat this passover meal with you before I suffer. I tell you: I will
not eat of it again until the Kingdom of God has come about. And he
took the bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to his disciples and said:
Take this all of you and eat it. This is my Body which will be given up for
you.
When
supper was ended, he took the cup. Again he gave thanks, gave the cup to his
disciples and said: Take this, all of you, and drink from it. This is the cup
of my Blood, the Blood of the new and everlasting Covenant. It will be shed
for you and for all, so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.
