A
few days before the feast of the Passover, Jesus said to the twelve
apostles:Now we are going to go up to
Jerusalem. There I will be delivered
into the hands of the chief priests and scribes. They will condemn me to
death and hand me over to the Romans. They will mock me, spit on me, scourge
me and then kill me. But after three days I will rise again. (Mk 10, 32-34)
When
they were drawing near to the city Jesus sent two disciples on ahead: Go into
the village. There you will see a young donkey which nobody has yet ridden.
Untie it and bring it to me. If anyone asks you: What are you doing there?
Tell them: The Lord requires the animal, he will return it shortly. The two
entered the village and found everything as Jesus has said. They brought the
animal to Jesus.
Jesus
rode the donkey into Jerusalem. The people who were
going along the road with them spread their cloaks before Jesus like a carpet
of honour. They tore branches from bushes and spread them on the road. The
crowd accompanying Jesus cried out: Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the
name of God. Blessed be the kingdom of our father David. Now it is really
coming into existence in the highest!
