Jesus
went up to a mountain. He summoned the disciples he had chosen and they came
over to him; twelve men. They were to accompany him always; to see what he
did and hear what he taught. He wanted to send these twelve out as his
apostles, so that they might pass on the Good News and heal the sick in his
name. The twelve were: Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter, James and his
brother John, then Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew (also called Levi),
Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, Thaddaeus, Simon and
Judas Iscariot who later betrayed him.
